The Ohio village of Johnstown is located in the western portion of Licking County, Ohio and spans 2.91 square miles. Johnstown is known for its small town charm, parks and green spaces and recently became sister cities with two other Ohio cities, Canal Winchester and Chardon. The community is home to the Johnstown-Monroe School District and features Searfoss and Oregon Elementary Schools, Adams Middle School and Johnstown-Monroe High School. The city hosts events such as the Copula Classic Cruise-In, a Labor Day Flea Market and seasonal Farmers Market.
The land that the village of Johnstown rests on land that was part of the states land designated as the U.S. Military Tract. The tract of land was used to pay soldiers from the Revolutionary war for their service to the nation. The land in the area was originally deeded to John Brown of Kentucky who later sold the land to Dr. Oliver Bigelow. Bigelow laid out the village in 1813 and a community was born. The early economy was based in agriculture and the railroad arrived in 1880 bringing a new age of prosperity to the area. The town hall and opera were constructed in 1885 followed by the arrival of telephone lines and service. In 1926 a virtually complete mastodon skeleton was found on a local farm which drew visitors from all around. The skeleton is now on display at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.[sws_pullquote_right]

According to the United States Census of 2010, Johnstown was home to 4,632 residents spread across 1,891 households giving the village a population density of 1,597.2 people per square mile. The median household income was $43,651 and the median family income was $55,326. The town is home to Tech International, Thirty One Gifts LLC, the Atrium Corporation and Star Pizza Box. The town is also home of many retail establishments including, but not limited to Johnstown Primitive Cellar, Coughlin Ford of Johnstown, Shull’s Hardware and Black Forest Pines Nursery. Johnstown has many historic sites like the Johnstown Town Hall/Opera House, the town square, Bigelow Cemetery and the Old Johnstown Jail.
