The unincorporated community of Lewis Circle, Ohio is part of the Orange Township in Delaware County. The community is a small one located on the eastern bank of the Oletangy River directly across from the municipality of Powell. Lewis Center is home to the Polaris Mall and a variety of wonderful restaurants and small businesses. This warm little community is a suburb of Columbus and its residential areas are predominantly made up of upper-middle class housing and comfort. It is a part of the award-winning Olentangy school district and is just west of Alum Creek State Park. Orange township, wherein Lewis Center lies was founded in 1816 and spans 23.2 miles. The village of Lewis Center was founded in 1850 when the railroad came to the area. The name of Lewis Center comes from William L. Lewis and his family who donated the land for a railroad station. Today Lewis Center still has a fairly small population compared to other parts of Orange Township. Public education for students of Lewis Center is provided by the Olentangy Local School District, which is the largest district in Delaware County. The school district has 15 elementary schools, three middle schools and three high schools. As of 2012 the school district had a student population of 16,767 students. In 2009/10 school year the school was given an “excellent” designation by the Ohio Department of Education by meeting 30 out of 30 indicators on its ODE report card.
Alum Creek and Alum Creek State Park and Alum Creek Reservoir are nearby enabling residents to explore nature and pursue a multitude of recreational activities. Alum Creek has many names including Allum Creek, Elk Creek, Seckle Creek Sepung Creek and Salt Creek. The Underground Railroad’s Sycamore Trail ran along Alum creek adding to the history of the area. Alum Creek State Park and Alum Creek Reservoir feature a 3000 foot beach with bathrooms, concession stand and changing area. There is a 286 campsite campground as well as eight cabins for rent in the park with access to showers, WiFi, bathrooms and boathouses. It also features a four acre dog park and 40 miles of trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding.
