The city of Pataskala, Ohio is located in Licking County and is approximately 17 miles east of Columbus. The community was a small one until it merged with the Lima Township in 1996 increasing both it’s geographic and population size. The city, which is part of the Columbus metropolitan area, now spans 28.72 square miles making it the largest city, geographically, in Licking County. As part of the Columbus Metropolitan Statistical Area, the bustling community of Pataskala has all the opportunities and conveniences of the big city along with all the charms and comforts of a small town.

The name Pataskala comes from the Delaware tribe word meaning Licking River. The village was incorporated in 1891 and gained the status of city in 1997. However, the modern history of the area did not begin until the arrival of the first European settler arrived, David Heron. Although Heron was the first, it is Richard Conine, who arrived in 1805 that is considered the father of Pataskala. It was not until 1821 that Conine purchased 2,000 acres land, settled permanently and began helping build and shape the community that was first known as Conine and the renamed Pataskala in 1851. Since then several notable people have called Pataskala home, including but not limited to author Jeaniene Frost, Christian rapper John Reuben and professional bowler Robert Smith.

According to the 2010 United States Census, Pataskala was home to 14,962 residents spread across 5,588 households giving the city a population density of 522.8 people per square mile. Statistics from, whose information dates from 2012, estimated the median household income in the city as $57,245 and the per capita income at $26,556. The estimated house or condo value in the city was $157,785. Public education in Pataskala is provided by two school districts, Southwest Licking Local Schools and the Licking Heights district. The Pataskala Chamber of Commerce works together to improve the business atmosphere and community awareness throughout the city by helping with events like the Pataskala Business Cooking Walk and the Farmers Market.

The city is made up of two communities, many neighborhoods and countless styles. With shady streets and green spaces including six parks ranging in size from five acres to 100 acres which host a variety of amenities like picnic areas, shelter houses, sports fields and playgrounds.
