The city of Worthington, Ohio is a suburb north of Columbus in Franklin County. The city spans 5.63 square miles and is almost entirely surrounded by the city of Columbus except for a small border section that it shares with the township of Perry. The community was settled in 1803 by familes, led by James Kilbourne, from the Farmington River Valley of Massachesetts and Connecticut. The community is named after Thomas Worthington a friend of Kilbourne that helped him purchase the 16,000 acres of land that would one day become the town of Worthington. Kilbourne planned and platted the original village like a traditional New England style village with 164 lots arranged around a central town square. The village of Worthington was incorporated in 1835, and in 1893 and electric street railway connected the village with Columbus and the village became a true suburb. Interstate 270 was completed in 1975 establishing a clear northern boundary for the city as well as connecting it to surrounding communities and opportunities.

According to the United States Census of 2010, the city was home to 13,575 residents spread across 5,691 households giving the city a population density of 2,445.9 people per square mile. Estimates from city-data.com in 2012 reported that the median household income was $82,803.00 nearly double the state median household income the same year. According to the same web site the median house or condo value in the city was $226,051 and the median gross rent was $803.

Worthington features three branches of the Worthington Public Library with over 436,00 volumes of text and nearly 500 periodical subscriptions. Public education is provided by the Worthington School district and the city also has a weekend supplementary Japanese School and the Ohio Contemporary Chinese School. The city is also blessed with 17 parks and playgrounds as well as two community centers.
