A recurring theme of the past year in the real estate industry has been the shortage of enough homes on the market. Home buyers are optimistic and ready to buy. But that means that buyers are often competing for properties and missing out on homes they want. If you’re buying a home this year, there are steps you can take to improve your chances:
- Talk to a mortgage broker and get pre-approved for a loan. A seller is much more likely to consider your offer versus others if they know you are an approved buyer.
- Be patient and flexible. The market is slower right now but will pick up quickly in the next few months. If you’re renting, see if your lease is month-to-month so you can purchase at any time. If you have a home to sell, get it ready to list. You will need to sell in a hurry or risk losing out on the home you want.
- Talk to a realtor and have them set up a search for you. You will get notified when properties that match your needs come on the market. Then you can get in to see them quickly.
