If you’re planning to sell your home in the next year, the time to start getting ready is now. That may sound crazy with the holidays just around the corner, but you will be glad you took a few steps in the right direction when it comes time to list.
Any realtor will tell you that the first step to getting your home ready to put on the market is reducing clutter. You want to make any buyer that comes through feel like your home is spacious and comfortable. And you want them to be able to envision themselves living in the space. The less of your personal items around, the better.
The holidays can be a good time for decluttering. When you get your holiday decorations out of storage, sell or get rid of items that you no longer use or want. Start packing away your every day decorations while you dress up your home for the season. There will be that much less to pack in January. It’s also a good time for some deep cleaning. Schedule a carpet cleaning. Wipe down all your woodwork. Tackle the mess of gloves and scarves that have accumulated in your closet over the years. Your home will be refreshed and ready for the holidays and your pre-listing preparations will be well under way.
